How it Works
with Dr Emelina Ellis, Clinical Excellence Lead
I look after all things clinical and operational relating to the Minding Creative Minds programme.

When you contact Minding Creative Minds, the first person you’ll speak with is a case manager. Our case managers are all qualified and accredited counsellors and psychotherapists. You’ll hear a friendly voice who will explore what it is that prompted you to make that phone call or send that text or webchat message to us. They’ll offer you unlimited in-the-moment support and they’ll identify what you need – what the most clinically appropriate service is for you. This might be:
-counselling
-couples counselling
-legal advice
-financial advice
-parenting advice
-life coaching
-cognitive behavioural therapy
or a number of other services that we can help you with.
Whatever information you share with your case manager, they’ll make sure that they match you with the most suitable service.

Over 500 members of the creative community contacted our service in the last year.
For example, we had people contacting us for financial advice and as they were having that conversation with their case manager about financial advice it became clear that perhaps they would benefit as well from career coaching or counselling to support them emotionally. It really is about exploring with your case manager:
- where you are
- where you’d like to be
- what’s difficult for you at the moment

We as humans are not equipped to go through emotional suffering and psychological distress alone.
If you go out there and twist your ankle, it’s not going to sort itself out. It’s exactly the same way if you’re dealing with anxiety or a low mood. If you had a sore tooth, you’re not going to say to yourself, “It’s going to sort itself out,” so it’s really important that we look at our mental health the same way and break down those barriers that might stop us from receiving emotional support.
No problem too small >>View Video>>
We are trained, qualified and accredited to support you with your emotional wellbeing, there is no problem too small. We’re not there just for you if you’re in a crisis (although we can absolutely support you in a crisis) but you don’t have to be in a crisis to pick up the phone and say, “Look this is something that is happening to me”. It’s really, really important that you connect with a mental health professional because they will be able to support you in that professional and confidential way. You need to know that you are not alone and you do not need to do this alone.
Humbled >>View Video>>
I absolutely love my work and I’m humbled on a daily basis by the people who we support. That connection is so important.
For example, the people who present with severe psychological distress at the start of that initial contact with us, find that their experience of wellbeing has improved much more when they’re finished consulting with us. This has a huge impact, not only on that person but also on their family and their group of friends.
Remember, if you’re a member of the Irish creative industry, you can talk to a counsellor free of charge at any time of the day or night. Simply call the phone number below.
